What is a tube well?

Tube well is a water well constructed to soil where groundwater seeps to the well through a screen or through the bottom.

Tube well sizes and types

FLUXSCREEN®-screen size and type depends on the soil types. Smallest diameter is 50 mm and largest 500 mm. FLUXSCREEN®-screens are constructed in three different types;

  • FLUXSCREEN®-'horizontal slit', which has horizontal slits spanning around the tube.
  • FLUXSCREEN®-MAXI, which has vertical slits in addition to horizontal slits.
  • FLUXSCREEN®-SLIM, which has dense horizontal slits and thin wall thickness.
All FLUXSCREEN®-screens have V-shaped slits that have larger opening pointing inwards. The slits stay open and usable even in long term pumping. FLUXSCREEN®-screens are the most used screen type in Finland and a secure screen choice. Plastic used in the screens has been tested and certified for use in food industry by VTT.

Well yield

FLUXSCREEN®-screens with large slit area and modern machinery enable the construction of large yield tube wells. The yield of our tube wells is enough for even a larger city. For the calculation of the yield of a well we use a precise real-time measurement system.

Computer aided screen dimensioning

Dimensioning of the screen height is done after the drilling has been completed. Height of the screen is chosen to get a best possible long-term maximum yield. The dimensioning program contains dimensions, test pumping data and soil types of about 800 wells.

Test pumping a tube well and archiving the data

A well is test pumped while it's constructed. The yield and hydraulic conductivities are measured with the use of measurement system. We have conducted well yield calculations from 1981. The results are in well blueprints in both paper and electronic versions.

Modern machinery

We have long traditions in designing and constructing machinery for drilling wells. Our newest drilling rig was completed in 1995 and has been constantly updated to the newest standards. It's use has allowed us to construct wells even to the most difficult soil types. The machine weighs 34 tons and has 180 kW of drilling power.
